Life in Photos – Day 46

A few weeks back, after my class, as I was making my way to the parking lot to get my bike, I happened to glance at the sunset, something I don’t usually do as I am mostly rushing home, and I caught sight of the sun gently setting behind the lighthouse, the Lanterna, a symbol of Genoa.

In all my years here, I can truly say, I have never seen this sight my my own eyes. Of course I have seen the sun setting over the horizon out at sea, but never from this vantage point. Also because I don’t live at the historic centre, so to get this exact view point would be quite impossible for me. I had to act fast as I know the sun sets pretty fast and I had all my groceries hanging off both arms. I didn’t want to miss the chance to photograph it. So, with groceries hanging off both arms and zooming in to not take the steel grills fencing where I was, I tried to hold my phone steady and get the sharpest picture possible. Though still quite out of focus, I managed.

I posted a few weeks back on my Instagram, wondering how many more sunsets I would get to enjoy, I am glad I managed to get this one. I don’t usually get any sunrise photos. I am not much of a morning person, if I can help it. I am a night owl, I tend to stay up late and if I can, sleep in. Kids, have changed things a little but being busy with the morning school run routines, I don’t even realise the sun rising. Wake up when it is dark. Wake the kids up. Morning routine, breakfast and then off to school. By that time the sun would have risen and it is all bright and bustling.

Getting carried away. Back to the topic. Photo of the day, sunset behind the Laterna. The Genoese lighthouse harking back to its glorious seafaring past, where its navy was the domineering force in the Mediterranean sea.

Life in Photos – day 44

Siloso beach at Sentosa in Singapore. This was taken from the bar area of Ola. Ola just opened the week before and I saw it on Instagram. Decided to bring the family there for a day on the beach. It was beautiful. Gorgeous place though the menu is not extensive but whatever we ordered, and we ordered a lot, it was good. I especially liked their tea. I can’t remember the name of it but it was so good I, alone ordered it 3 times.

I have not been back to Siloso beach for years and now it is unrecognisable. The whole island is unrecognisable. Not too sure if it is for the better or not. Singapore does know how to keep the greenery and not totally destroy its natural beauty while at the same time it created jobs and brought in tourist which is always good for the country’s economy.

All in all, it was a good day. Z got sunburnt on her face even with 50 protection on. Delicate skin, this girl has. J, on the other hand, didn’t quite like the water yet. Ola has a pool so we thought to let Jo go for a dip. Guess who ended up enjoying the pool more? You guessed it! my bumblebee Z!

Go visit Ola at Siloso beach on Sentosa island!

Cascata delle Marmore – Marmore falls

Cascata delle Marmore
Cascata delle Marmore

This photo was taken from the outside. It was on a whim that we stopped by this waterfall last year in August. We were on our way back from the south after a summer holiday with my parents, aunt and parents in law. Got the idea for this whim from a friend of mine who visited it just a few days before for his summer holidays. Since we wanted to break our long journey back from the south, on my insistence we search and found an amazing B&B in Arrone which was only 5 km away from this beautiful sight. However, when we got there, there was this HUGE line for the tickets to enter that we decided we will do this possibly another time. My MIL was already fretting as we had an eventful morning before this and to wait inline for a few hours with a 6 month old and all the older folks was not a good idea. So we drove out of the parking lot and further up ahead on the road that led to the highway and stopped to take this photo. you could feel the spray of the fall this far out!! It was quite a sight! I definitely recommend that you visit this place if you have a chance. From what I heard from my friend as well, it is definitely worth it. Hopefully we will get round to visiting this place again when we are more prepared. Like possibly getting the tickets online. oh wait! They don’t have online ticketing.. dang it! Oh well, be ready to brave the queue.

This waterfall is located in Terni I think. you can get more info on it here. Some of the translation is not the best but you can get the general idea. Have fun!

One of the best buys that M has made. It is a chargeable LED night light cum torchlight. It changes colour both top and bottom. Or either one could be on or off or one of them on one colour while the other changes. Then when you need a torch just lift the top part off and instantly you have a torch!

I find this so useful especially now that I have a baby. I don’t have to turn on the lights whenever I want to check in her or change her diaper. The other best buy is a glow in the dark pacifier. Trust me on this if you child uses pacifiers. Saves you time searching in the bed all over for a missing pacifier. 🙂
