Working on a few blogposts but none are ready yet. For now, you have to be contented with my Life in Photos series. You know how annoying it is when you are looking for something and you never find it? Murphy’s Law they call it. It is for one of my posts and it is the only photo I have too. But it will be ready soon. Stay tuned!
The descriptions sounds really redundant but the name of the place is Ipoh Old Town White Coffee and they have branches all over Malaysia. This one is in Ipoh. I really like the bird cage lighting that they had, together with the old marble school marble table tops and stools/ chairs. 🙂
We were walking from the international arrival to the domestic terminal. The lighting and the dawn lighting in the background comes together very well. It was 6 am. I have not seen this airport for awhile and I was a bit surprised that it has changed so much. For the better too!
So, I was back in Singapore on the first leg of my journey to meet up with the girls for our Annual Girly Trip (AGT). Because I arrived really early and Dee was already leaving for work then, I wouldn’t be able to make it in time to her place so I decided to get a hotel for 2 nights. Asking the hotel to hold my booking from the night before so that I can check in early and not have to wait for the normal check in time at 2pm. I was browsing my usual websites for good deals when I was intrigued by possibly a new boutique hotel on Mosque Road on www.booking.com. It looked interesting on the website and was at a really good location. Just a street away from Chinatown MRT station which is where incidentally is the main Chinatown street. Which also means I can just cross the road to People’s Park mall or is it shopping centre via underpass or the overhead garden pathway. It is also cheaper than my usual hotel which is a darn good 3 star one!
The room was relatively cheap for Singapore’s prices and it is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. It had a very interesting name too. Porcelain as it said on the site. I was intrigued. I immediately booked and was looking forward to the stay. It was so new that the taxi driver had a bit of a problem finding the place though now that I know where it is, it is hard to miss. The road is one way anyway, so there is no way you can miss it. It is at the end of the road. It is much easier to spot at night when the whole building it lit up. Blue lights with Chinese motifs and the little round blue lights with the hotel name on a white background. It really stands out at night.
There are many restaurants on that same street which none were open yet when I arrived and was dying of hunger! The nearest according to reception is McDs, and I am not about to eat that when I just got back to Asia. Plus I was dead tired. In the end I gulped down water after a hot shower and crawled into bed till 5.30pm when I reluctantly dragged my ass out of bed to get ready to meet the girls for Korean food. But I must say, the next day, I did walk over to the opposite side where I was told there is a food court and I got myself a hot bowl of noodle soup for breakfast. Bliss!
Now to the rooms. I had quite high expectations for the rooms as it boasts 4 stars and a “boutique” word in its description. Though I must admit that the room was nice, clean and very comfortable, the main thing it didn’t have was WINDOWS! I had a window-less room. My first, EVER! The strange thing was that the reception told me that they “upgraded” my room! I am curious to find out what was my original room. My room was on the ground floor and it is one that is equipped for the disabled. One thing great was that because it was a disabled room, I had a huge ass toilet. The size was exactly 50% of the entire room! The toilet is as big as the room! Though if I went there with M, we wouldn’t have any space for our luggage. 😦 I barely fit mine in there without it being in the way all the time. But we will have ample room to boogie in the toilet! 😛
Then, there was no closet space. The only space I had to hang anything was the hangers they provided that was mounted on the walls above the desk. A very strange place to put them since this is a room for the disabled, I doubt they would be able to reach it to hang anything. Unless they climbed on the table. Which I think would not support anyone’s body weight, at least not prolonged use. Their tv channels were also severely lacking. Never mind that they had only 5 channels, that is still ok with me BUT out of the 5 channels ONLY 2 were watchable!! And I don’t even mean content wise. The rest was so blurry, fuzzy and very bad sound that I ended up with only AXN which I was lucky had good and interesting content. They had free wifi which is a plus but since their bed is like a built in bed, I have to crawl in and out from the bottom of the bed, I found it troublesome and really inconvenient to not have at least 1 power point next to the bed. I had to charge my mobile phones and the laptop only at the table. Which means, I can’t surf the net in bed for long. And I can’t charge the phone while I am sleeping either because I am too lazy to get up and get out of bed just to reply an sms and crawl back into bed. It works wonders if you have an early morning and the alarm on your phone is at the table, you are then forced to get up. 🙂 I don’t see this as being disable friendly either. I find it troublesome to get out of bed to answer the phone while it is charging, so I think it would be extremely inconvenient for someone in a wheelchair, don’t you think?
Overall, I had a good experience. Not sure if I will stay here again but maybe I might if the price is right! A few snags here and there. I really do think that whoever designed the room especially for the disabled, did not think through their design or have never really stayed in that room before. Aesthetically it is beautiful but practically in the finer details, not so much.
If anyone has stayed in this hotel before and did not get the room I got, please let me know how it went.
So so sad. Our Annual Girly Trip (AGT) is over. 😦 and it is back to reality. Stayed over for a night at Dee’s before waking up LATE for my flight back to Kuala Lumpur (KL) all because we were sooooooo tired from ALL our travel and we set the wrong timing for the alarm clock. Hehehehe! But I managed to make the flight in time.
Am now back in KL and I dove right into my workouts again after a looong, relaxing and extremely fun week away. Feels good! Though today’s trip to a Chinese massuese was really painful!
What is more painful now is the fact that I am writing this on my BIL’s IPad and it is driving me nuts!! @&$*^%!!!!
I am going to give up writing this post on account of this blardy IPad ! Arrrggghhhhh!!!
The prolific entries stopped for a while cause I was stumped for a new blog. I had so much to write about I didn’t know where to start! It happens, even to the best of us! LOL!!! that is my story and I am sticking to it!
Flew out of Italy on Tuesday and am now in Singapore meeting up with the girls. Tonight we will be flying out to Boracay!!!
One of the best vacations I have ever taken at one of the most beautiful places in the world. A true Shangri-la in the Himalayas. The Land of the Thunder Dragon. I LOVE ❤ BHUTAN! I will be back to visit soon!
I am banned from going to the gym today. Ever heard of it? M says that I am overdoing it. Is there such a thing? I rested on Saturday and Sunday. Well sort of. My body was aching all over in a good ache kind of way so I rested Saturday. But Sunday we went out to sea. My first time out since summer started. I am a little tanned. Ko, if you are reading this, it so freaking hot now, you escaped it by 2 weeks. A week later, and both Sha and you would have fried in the heat. It was about 38˙C with 86% humidity. If I wasn’t out at sea, you would need a crowbar to pry me out of the house. We went out on our jetski and since M was driving, I didn’t want to, being lazy ass and all, I had to hold on to him as we were going like 60 knots. Crazy fast! Which ended with me having sore muscle, tan and a great day! In the end, I actually didn’t rest much. 😛
So, since I am banned from going to the gym or exercise, I am blogging. Yay! My prolific moments shall continue. As expected, I had to break this post to have dinner with the family but now I am back.
I have been living here on the Italian Riviera for years and have heard of this statue of Christ of the Abyss off of San Fruttuoso but I have never seen it in person. You can read more about it here. What’s more, I pass it all the time whenever we are out at sea on our way to Portofino or Sestri Levante. You can only reach San Fruttuoso either by foot from either Camogli or Portofino and from what I have read and heard, it takes about 2-3 hours to get there and the same to get back. Quite a hike. The easiest way would be by boat. There are more information about getting there from here, here and here.
So last Sunday, I decided that it was time I see it for myself. Told M lets go there for a swim since we didn’t want to go all the way to Portofino. On our way into the bay, the place was littered with jellyfish which made me a little nervous swimming there. But as we got closer to the beach it was clearer and free of jellyfish. What a relief! The water was cold at first dip but refreshing.
I set out to look for the statue and heard that it is further out and about 15m down. Water is very clear so I was hoping to be able to photograph it since I had my camera with me. I swam around till I caught sight of the hands of Christ. I tried to dive down closer to it to take a photo. I had on ill fitting goggles that kept letting water in. I possibly managed a paltry 3 metres and kept getting my vision blurred by water entering my mask. In the end, as they say, I anyhow snapped a picture. This is what I managed. You could just about see the outline of the outstretched arms on the left of the picture.
What I managed to take
After a few failed attempts, I swam back to the jetski and urged M to dive down and take a better picture for me. 😛 He being the sweet man that he is obliged me. This is what he managed. He took a much better picture but still blur.
what M took….
It should actually look like this when taken from a better position with all the right scuba gear.
Well at least I have seen it in person though not as clearly as I would have liked. Maybe I can rent some scuba gear the next time to see it better or buy better fitting goggles and train my lungs better to withstand the dive down to not only see it but to maybe photograph it better.
I have another post about my Sunday (when I get round to it :P) but this was one of the highlights of that day! 🙂
There are 2 more of these statues in the world. 1 a gift from Genoa to St. George’s, Grenadaand another was presented to the Underwater Society of America in New York and was later placed off Key Largo, Florida. Hopefully some day I can visit them both.
