Life in Photos

Window of a 300 year old church in Pra, Genova

I have decided to add another dimension to my blog. Besides just blogging, I want to post photos as I go about my days not just to my Twitter account which many of you are not my followers and to be able to post just photos without the need of a full length post about them. Just photos and let them speak for themselves.

Time flies…

Where has time gone? Just last week it was May and now it is June! Seems like last month I could only manage 6 posts. 😦

The up side of that is that it was an amazing 2 weeks! My brother was in town with his wife my SIL for their honeymoon! It was fun showing them around. This time, I managed to see much more. Things I have never noticed or places I have never been to and even seeing the same things differently.

We managed to do a tour of Genova’s historic centre on foot and for the first time a bus tour if the city. It wasn’t expensive only about Euro 10 per person which I found really interesting. Since I was at an elevated and open top 360˚ view, I could see things I have never noticed, though I might pass through that area almost every other day. In my defense, when you are driving, You should be attentive on the road and not so much the surroundings, right? πŸ˜›

The next day we did Camogli and Recco. It was a free and easy, relaxing holiday for my brother so we didn’t try to fit in too much. Sunned ourselves with the very little sun available after a downpour during lunch. After that, on that Sunday, we went to Portofino after Sunday lunch at my in laws. Lazy Sunday.

Monday was a more interesting, action packed day. We drove all the way to Cannes and made our way back the coastal road till Monte Carlo. My brother and SIL was really lucky as both the Cannes Film festival AND the Monte Carlo F1 finished on that Sunday! So we had lunch in Cannes, walked the red carpet, did some shopping (something a friend ordered) and moved on to Nice via Cagnes sur Mer and Antibes. I have been to Antibes but Cagnes sur Mer was really an eye opener. It was so beautiful! It had a great pathway/ walkway along the beach dotted with amazing works of art. Because of bad traffic we got to Nice only 2 hours later. Wasting a lot of time. I don’t have much photos either cause I was driving and again, I should be concentrating on the road rather than surroundings, right? Safety first. πŸ™‚

When we finally arrived in Nice it was already 6. We missed the last tour train by seconds. In the end, we just dipped our feet into the Riviera, had a drink and something light to eat and we were on our way. My SIL didn’t want to do any more walking. So we made our way again on the coastal road (again!, I tried to get to the highway, so many times to no avail because I kept changing my mind…) but it was a really so picturesque and something I have never done and never would have if I didn’t take my brother on that road trip or if the French government was better at their road signs. LOL!! We managed to see Eze and….hmm….ok, I can’ remember.

Then, we got into Monte Carlo. Because of Formula 1, the roads were a little changed which threw me off guard a little.. I did this whole trip without a navigator. These few places were familiar to me as I am there a few times a year, a few weeks at a time for work. It took me longer than normal to find my way out and I though I wasn’t going to make it for dinner with M at 9pm, I thought I could possibly manage 10pm. After 2 rounds on the F1 track, I finally got out. The curveball came when I was about 10 mins from Genova and they CLOSED part of the road. I had to be diverted toward Alessandria and get off at Masone. Then since the road was closed, I decided to use the local roads which added 45mins. In the end we arrived home close to 11pm. The interesting part was that I could show my brother where I was once left behind by M with only a map and no idea where on the map I was. I just followed the road till the nearest town to figure out where I was.Β  It was dark and deep in the mountains and the road was filled with pin hair turns that I can’t see in the dark which made it even harder.

M was a darling and bought pizza for us for dinner. I was too tired to eat pizza and I was craving comfort food. Guess what I had? ……. Maggi Mee!!! My bro brought some for me!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The next day, we did a whole day of shopping at Serravalle!! 6 full hours and we didn’t even do all the shops! But it was fun!! Wednesday was a low key day. Lazed at home, had lunch and went shopping for groceries. My bro and SIL were cooking for my in laws to thank them for their hospitality. I got some home cooked food too! Claypot chicken rice, fried bee hoon, pak choy, green beans with pork and my contribution which is sweet and sour pork! yums!!!!! Before that, my SIL also made soup. salted veg soup with tofu and fishballs with chicken. Later she added tom yam paste and it became soooo good!!! I was in heaven!

That was the end of my eventful week. All this excitement made me fall sick. I got sore throat and the a full blown flu and fever just as they left. It was a happy kind of sick!!! if there is such a thing?

To cap things, we ended the weekend with a wedding and a baptism.

It is already 4 am. I should be in bed. But I am now hungry. 😦 Something to eat first?

Nighty night!

Mousey’s brush with H1N1…

Hello everyone!

Hopefully you guys didn’t feel lonely the last 2 weeks when I was having my internet withdrawal moments. I lost 2 weeks just like that! Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I was hoping that I would be able to keep to 10 posts a month. Since I started with this new paradigm shift in my mindset, I have been actively trying to keep my motivation sky high. But I am back now to set the record straight!

Last 2 weeks, I was back in Malaysia where we had an exhibition on and I took the opportunity to go home since it was in my own country. We got back to Malaysia on the 13th of April which was a Friday (come to think of it, it was Friday the 13th!! :P). Got in early and brought Eddy straight for some local food since he couldn’t check in yet and I wanted my laksa. But where we went we were still too early for laksa. Then I went home, my sis’ place, and then my sis and my BIL S sent Eddy to the hotel. That was when the adventure began. Not for me but for my sis and S.

S was having fever on and off for the past week after their disastrous Air Asia adventure weekend in Penang. They have gone to the doctors for 3 times already and the last diagnose was that he possibly had dengue fever. Told to go home and rest and if it got worse, he should go to the hospital the next day. He came home and went straight to bed. I lounged in the hall and didn’t think of checking up on him since he was resting. When my sis came back his fever has worsen and we made a beeline to the hospital. Our plans to go home to Ipoh for the weekend was shelved for my sister.

In the end, only my dad and myself went home to Ipoh. Then the news got worse. S was diagnosed with possibly having H1N1.Β  He was treated immediately. I urged my sister to contact Air Asia immediately to keep them informed that all who were on that fight could be at risk. After 3 days, his fever still didn’t go down and the doctors were a little puzzled, so was S’s family as they were doctors themselves. After H1N1 which was already under control, the doctors think he has Influenza AΒ  which he probably caught in the hospital as his immune system was low. After almost a week, he was finally allowed to go home. He is still on “house arrest” of some sort. He will back in the skies in another week.

Though the title sounds like I had the highly infectious flu, my sis and I both had high immune systems that we were both protected from it. Not as exciting as the title suggests but that was my brush with H1N1. The last time I had a brush like this, it was when I was flying, right through SARS, twice! πŸ™‚

All in all a quiet, uneventful trip back home.

Going home to another withdrawal..

I am going home tomorrow!! Till now, 6.30pm, I am flying tomorrow supposedly at 11am, I have yet to receive my tickets from my very irresponsible travel agent. Which is why I like to get my own tickets most of the time. Why am I still using her? Well, it is not me who is using her, but our company. M has dealt with her for more than 10 years now and will continue to use her. He bought the tickets with her before I could even tell him no, and that I will get my own tickets. Also, because of her, M lost his Krisflyer Gold Card qualification because even after several reminders, she kept buying the wrong tickets resulting in no points given. This really riled M up. Because of the nature of our jobs, it is essential that we have the Gold Card. It allows us to go to a Business class check in line which is usually shorter, have extra baggage and the First and Business class lounges available to us whenever we are airport hopping is really a blessing in disguise. The extra baggage also allows us to carry items that are essential for every Italian stand, the espresso machines, and anything else we either forgot or have to bring on our own to supplement the stand, with no extra cost. Anyway, we are working on this. Hopefully we can get him back on track with just one flight.

I am going home to Malaysia. As you all know from my earlier posts, I don’t have any data plan on my local number, oh, man am I going to suffer!!! Sniff!! T_T this is the crying emoticon, right? I so bad at this. πŸ˜› Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to go home. I get to see my family and eat! eat! eat! A little exercise in between and then eat again! But, as my sister said, I am such an internet whore. I blame all this on my new found interest in Twitter. I love to read the posts and the fact that I am in touch with people around the world in real time. I know that FB does the same but it feels distinctly different. I prefer Twitter. Not much mumbo jumbo to sift through. Just 140words or less. Get the gist and move on.

I have to go soon. A friend came down from Turin and is now in front of me. Update y’all soon!

Toodeloos!!

Update: just got the tickets now. Better late than never, right? πŸ™‚

Island Weekend

Tonight we will be making our way to the island of Sardegna. It is going to a long 12+hour ferry ride and another 130km+ drive before we even get to where we want to go. It is going to be a loooooong weekend. I am super excited though. I have heard so much about the beauty of Sardegna and also how freaking expensive it is in summer. It is after all the playground of the rich and famous in the summer. I think the destination that we are going for is Porto Cervo.

I heard that the people of Sardegna, commonly referred to as Sarda have special plane and ferry ticket prices. As a concession for them as part of Italy and to allow them to have more access to the mainland. Somehow, we managed to get the cabins for our night stay on the ferry as our other friends going along with us is originally from Sardegna. Lucky us!

I am bringing along my camera and hopefully I do some justice to the beauty that surrounds me! πŸ˜›

Toodeloos and have an amazing weekend!!!

P/s: My FIL just informed me that we should have bought tickets for Olbia instead of Porte Torres. Olbia is only 40+km from our destination. OMG!!! we are going on motorcycle too!! but hey! It will be fun! It has been some time since our last road trip! Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

Skin Care – Lancome

Pretty mundane entry. I just wanted to rave about a line of skin care that I have been using for years. I am not paid for this. This is just my own tried and tested love for the products.

I first got introduced to this brand Lancome back in 1998 when I first joined Singapore Airlines. Every other year, SQ has a contract with different make up brands to teach their skin care and make up classes. For my year Lancome was the company. I don’t really have a skin care regime going on even when I was in school. My sis did. She would take care to wash her face properly and put on moisturiser which probably explains why she has such porcelain skin and need minimum care even now. All I did was just wash my face. I did not even bother with moisturiser. Also, I hardly had make up on.

So, my first formal introduction to any kind of skin care and make up was through this classes. Being new to it, I bought most of the items “recommended” and over time left out some and acquired others. I realised that I didn’t need to spend the amount I spent on make up from them. I could get cheaper alternatives elsewhere where eye colours and blushers were concerned but I found out that for make up removing no one tops them. Personal view of course. Now more than 10 years on, I still only use their make up remover and toner, eye make up remover and eye cream. Even through my lean years (in Uni where I supported myself), Lancome was still the only product I splurged on. I realised that you can use ANY type pf make up as long as you have a good base it doesn’t matter. and one of my good bases is Lancome!

Here are the pictures of the items I use. These pictures are taken from the official Lancome website. http://www.lancome.it. Just raving!

You will realise that there is no mention of moisturisers and face cream but that is for another entry of another amazing product!
